A roundup of what's new in the Flow X Beta.

With the public release of Flow X in beta coming up — stay tuned for more on this — we wanted to share the progress we’ve made since we last updated you on all the great things we’re working on! We’re so excited to share Flow X with you when it’s released publicly in beta and can’t wait to hear your feedback.

  • Chat: A new version of what was previous called "Flow Chat" has been released in beta with Flow X and we've made it available to all organizations — regardless of your subscription tier. We’re hoping this gives you a more immersive experience in Flow by allowing you to communicate more effectively with your teammates. In Flow chat you can create group channels to discuss specific topics or projects as well as direct messages between teammates.
  • Team Project Dashboard: We’ve updated the Team Project Dashboard to adopt the Flow X aesthetic in preparation for future feature releases in this view.
  • Drag & Drop: In the Home tab you can now drag and drop tasks to make quick work of rearranging your day’s work. We’ve also added the option to drag and drop a file to attach it to a task comment.
  • Sidebars: We’ve restyled sidebars throughout the app to make it easier to jump between projects and from DMs to chat channels. We also have new features planned for the sidebar in the calendar tab so keep an eye out for those as they’re released!
  • Project Sections: We’ve added project sections to the breadcrumb path at the top of the task pane to better show where an individual task exists within a team. We’ve also added project sections to task comments to give a clearer understanding of when a task is moved from one section to the other.

An update on the Flow X Beta.

It’s been almost two months since we opened the Flow X Beta and we wanted to give you an update on all the changes happening there.

This is just a snapshot of what’s new in Flow X, but you’ll soon be able to try them firsthand when we open the beta to all users ahead of the public launch. We can’t wait for you to have a look and let us know what you think!

  • Task Priority: Users on Plus or Pro plans can now add a priority level to tasks to show how important they are. Priority is reflected in the Tasks tab, where you can sort by priority, as well as in the task pane.
  • Task notes: Task notes will now display when the last edit was made and the name of the person who edited it last. This will let you know who’s making changes to the task note and when the information in the task note was last updated.
  • Due Times: We’ve added the option to include a due time for users on Plus or Pro plans. This is another level of detail you can include in your tasks on top of a due date to give your team a better idea of what work to work on first.
  • Home: We’ve introduced a new version of the Catch Up view called Home, where you can get a quick snapshot of tasks due today in the new My Tasks section at the top. We’ve also reframed updates on the tasks you’re subscribed to as My Updates, with a slightly refreshed look.
  • Status: You can now easily communicate your status to teammates by setting yourself to Active, Focused, or Away in the main menu or by clicking your avatar in the Home tab. Your status can also include a note – along with an emoji – to let your team know exactly what you're up to and can be set to expire at a specific time. For ease of use, you can simply hover over a teammate’s avatar or name to see their status and any note they’ve added throughout Flow — including in comments, on tasks, and messages in chat.
  • iOS: Updates have also been made to the iOS app as part of the beta. These updates include merging our task and chat apps into a single app, improved support for task creation, the option to view due times and task priority, as well as a new look to match the Flow X UI more closely. This is just the beginning for iOS updates in beta! We’re so excited for you to see how far we’ve come and we’ll be updating you soon with information on joining the iOS beta program.

As the reach of the COVID-19 virus expands globally and its impact hits ever closer to home, we wanted to let you know that you’re on our minds in this difficult time.

While many companies are shifting to remote work in light of new health protocols, Flow’s team has been fully distributed for the last two years. That means that remote work is second nature to us and you should see no disruption in the high level of service we pride ourselves on. It also means that if your team is struggling to adapt to a new way of working, we understand firsthand and would love to help. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team for tips, tool recommendations, or anything else that might make the transition easier. Note from the CEO of Flow

Over the last year, the team and I have been working incredibly hard on a new vision for Flow. One that embraces everything we’ve learned over the last 10 years but recognizes that the nature of work, and the tools that we use to do it, are changing faster than ever.

We couldn’t be more excited to finally share what we’ve built and where we’re headed in a series of updates over the next few months.

In those, we’ll cover:

Flow X. We started from scratch to build a faster, simpler, more powerful version of Flow. This massive update contains over a hundred improvements and dozens of new features, including the ability to add due times to tasks, set priority for tasks, and mark tasks as in progress or cancelled. We’re also reviving chat and messaging in Flow.

New branding. We’ve also been hard at work on an evolved look for Flow. We’ll be rolling that out over the next few months and we’re excited to share the story behind the rebrand with you.

New pricing and plans. We’re introducing new plans and pricing across the board. Teams will soon have 3 plans to choose from: Basic, Plus, and Pro. We’re lowering our prices for individuals using Flow Solo. And we’re raising our annual plan discounts, bringing our Pro team plan to just $10 per user per month if you pay yearly.

Roadmap. Finally, we’ll share more about what you can expect from Flow in 2020. As well as how you can help us shape the future by sharing your feedback and testing future versions of our apps.

All of the above has been a long time coming. We’re so excited to finally share it with you.

Thank you for using Flow! Here’s to the journey ahead.
